I've been meaning to edit these pics and get them up here since... well last June. I've decided that nice editing is probably never going to happen though, so here is an unedited dump of some of the pictures I liked best. What a day!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

It was really surreal to be in such a beautiful outdoor setting with race cars, a steam cog railroad, and helicopters all operating in the same space!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I do believe this is the car that crashed on the second run of the day... what a shame. I overheard the driver after run 1 saying he had so much torque he pretty much was leaving it in one gear the whole run.

Kinja'd!!!

I enjoyed watching Travis Pastrana and David Higgins and their codrivers frantically running around trying to get an idea of their times between runs...

Kinja'd!!!

Jettamino racecar

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I find the little nicknacks and doodles people put on their cars fascinating....

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I love the rock chock under the wheel...

Kinja'd!!!

One of the benefits of coming directly from camping at a bluegrass festival in Vermont: I had food and a bed in the back to nap on. In fact I have to wonder if some of the magical nature of the day was due to the fact that I left the festival at 4am after playing music all night and then ended up at this amazing place! Either way it was an amazing day. This was the second road trip I took in the saabaru about a month after buying it, the first being the trip down to STPR.

Kinja'd!!!

The broken motorsports car that broke the 2WD record up Mt. Washington

Kinja'd!!!

I love me a livery with white on the hood... I'm not sure why.

Kinja'd!!!

Super chicken!

Kinja'd!!!

The turbo on the other side was covered in tin foil...

Happy Friday!

Surprised to see a couple of MGs there! I want to bring mine to an event like that. Are there classes for antiques that aren't running flat out?

I think I know the guy who has the MG TC, or I saw it written up in another publication somewhere.

Know what the date is for the '15 climb?

I thought so as well, although I can tell you after following it both up and down the mountain it's slow as all get out, and probably sketchy to ride in!

I don't know, and I don't believe it is a yearly event. My understanding is they run it every couple years when they feel like it, although my information could be off. You should definitely run your MG in it next time though, I think the huge variety of old and new cars was what made it so amazing for me.

I was there the Wednesday before, and really wish I could've stayed for the hillclimb. It was raining a lot that day, and I could only go half way up. It's great to see these pictures, and see what I missed, with all the low clouds.

Yeah, that's it. It isn't run very regularly. The '14 event was the first in years.

The turbo mounts are one of the only places left that Adrian Newey is allowed to work his magic with the new regs.

The weather ended up being amazing! I understand it's always a gamble there, but man they won big this year. I had never been before, went on a whim, and was totally amazed by the place.

The weather was amazing that weekend. We stayed in Gorham that night and then drove to the Finger Lakes in NY the next day. Friday we wandered out towards Watkins Glen and got to listen to the cars practicing on the track for the 6 hr race that weekend.

Did Orlove try to run the event in it, or was he too worried about going full Orlove?

Lower trim panels removed for better clearance on the sides - if they were still there I bet they'd look like the fender. I wish I could get a better look at how he's got that Warn 8274 set up.

Oh, and this is a '70-'71 "late" IIa.

I honestly don't know, sorry... so many cars there, I should have paid better attention to what each car was but I didn't.

No worries, it's just an extreme oddity, whatever it is. The frame, suspension, most of the car at the least appear to be vintage, but the car that grill belongs on didn't look anything like that from the factory. It may be a faithfully-styled replica hill-climber with a lot of specialty parts and some mechanicals from the same car as the grill and others, or it may be something actually from the late 20s. Whatever it is is almost certainly handmade to an extent.

Very interesting, I appreciate your insight. I actually have more pictures of that car than any of the others because I found it fascinating myself, I have to head home from work now but I'll post the rest later and see if anybody can ID it.

Yes, there is a vintage category. Unfortunately there is no climb in 2015. It tends to be a "once every 3-4 years" thing

Yeah you grenaded your engine on the first run of the day, right? That stinks. You probably are in the Orlove pic, although to be honest I'm not sure I know your name or would recognize you in real life. I saw that car down at STPR too I believe... Will you be at ESPR this year? I'm planning on being there, I'll say hi if I see you.

In the Orlove pic I'm pretty sure I'm on the other side of the car just behind the back end (he was there as part of my crew). We blew a pair of large holes in our block and obliterated a piston. You did see the car at STPR, though I was in a different car for that event. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be at ESPR, right now it looks like I'll be at Oregon Trail Rally that weekend. I plan on being back at STPR though.

Ok, I do remember seeing you there then. I've always been a fan of rally driving, but never even realized it existed here in America until I found this website a couple years ago. Last year was my first time attending events, so I'm very much learning who's who and how things work. Unfortunately I don't think I can make it back down to STPR this year, but I'm sure we'll cross paths at a rally somewhere, I intend to keep going to them when I can and hope to get more involved. If you are ever short on crew for ones on the east coast let me know, I'd love to help out!

Well, that appears to be a very early Pontiac hood ornament and possibly grill, so it may have been modified.
